Ecclesiastical enclosure in Knockbrack (corran By.)

Ecclesiastical enclosure

What is recorded here

Occupying the same site as Drumrat graveyard (SL039-074002-). M. B. Timoney (2001b, 50) has noted that the curve of the grave-memorials within the graveyard as well as a slight drop in ground level along the NE sector (pers. comm. M. B. Timoney) indicate the presence of a circular ecclesiastical enclosure here. Within the enclosure is the scant ruin of the late medieval parish church of Drumrat (SL039-074001-). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008
