Mud, fire and muscle built the earthwork northeast of Raglan Castle during the 17th Century. It is a Post Medieval siege work, shaped for urgency rather than pride. Men may have dragged soil under pressure while cannon smoke stained the valley, making the ordinary ground into a weapon.
