Bord Gáis Éireann aircraft first glimpsed the circular shadow in 1984, revealing a twenty-two-metre earthwork hidden beneath reclaimed pasture near Gormanstown Castle. The monument evades historic mapping yet persists through cropmarks, suggesting human hands shaped the soil before modern fields erased its memory. A drainage channel now cuts across its northeast edge, reminding viewers that even forgotten boundaries must yield to the flow of living water.

In reclaimed pasture 125m NW of Gormanstown Castle (LI040-066003-). Enclosure (LI040-066004-) lies to immediate NE. Not depicted on OSi historic maps. Identified on Bord Gáis Éireann aerial photographs taken 03/11/1984 (1:5,000 No. 2556) as a possible earthwork. Outline of monument is visible as a roughly circular-shaped cropmark (diam. c. 22m) on OSi orthophoto taken between 2005-12 where it is intersected at NE by drainage channel running NW-SE. Visible as faint cropmark on Digital Globe orthophoto taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimage dated 14/09/2019. See attached Google Earth orthoimages.
