Friarsquarter West holds buried earthworks beside Ballinrobe abbey on the Robe River. They disappeared under modern housing after being noted in the 1980s. The abbey still stands above the changed ground, keeping the quarter alive while the older shape waits beneath feet and foundations.

On the E bank of the Robe River, adjacent to Ballinrobe abbey (MA118-022002-), on the northern outskirts of Ballinrobe town. Earthworks were noted here in the 1980's by Bradley and Dunne (1989, 24) who recorded them as follows: 'There are numerous undulations in terrain in the field immediately to the west and north of the abbey [Ballinrobe abbey (MA118-022002)] but these form no coherent pattern.'
