Backhill Wood still holds medieval rig and furrow marks, proving that Dupplin Castle Policies served as working farmland long before becoming wooded policy land. The earth preserved the shape of repeated ploughing while people lived beside or around it. Whether tenants, castle workers or neighbouring farmers tended those strips remains unknown. The wood now hides the field rather than erasing it.
