Dunyvaig Castle stands in Argyll and Bute, a rocky outpost where the land stops arguing with the sea and listens instead. Its walls have watched boats appear and vanish, carrying people whose names never reached us. That much is written in the shape of the place: a castle built to be seen from water, not hidden from it.
Dunyvaig Castle is shown as a castle on the public map of Argyll and Bute. The saved point is the map point or the centre of its mapped shape.
Dunyvaig Castle was built by the Macleans of Lochbuie in the 16th century and later held by the Macdonalds of Dunnyveg, who were prominent Clan Donald chieftains. It is remembered as a key stronghold in the history of the Western Isles and as the seat of the Lord of the Isles until the early 17th century.
