Quarry tools bit into Fife rock through the 19th Century, lifting heavy stone for buildings elsewhere while men risked bruised hands and buried ankles. Newcastle and Dunfermline still carry that taken shape, even when the exact pit fades from memory. The quarry did not decorate itself; it fed other places and disappeared into their walls.
