Marian and her keeper lost the castle in a storm of arguments, then walked into East Lodge to discover marble stairs hidden beneath rotting carpet. They stripped the fake wood and flooded the halls with lamp light until the building breathed again. Pitreavie stopped being a dead address and became a place where forgotten things return when someone refuses to leave them buried.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Dunfermline, Castle Drive, Pitreavie Castle, East Lodge as Lodge (19th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Pitreavie Castle, including the East Lodge on Castle Drive in Dunfermline, was built in the 19th century as a country house and later became the headquarters of the Royal Army Pay Corps. It is remembered for its historical association with military administration in Scotland.
