This blue commemorative plaque records: Near this spot on 6th March 1922 occurred the Dudley Port Explosion when 19 girls were killed whilst dismantling redundant WW1 cartridges. Their memorial stands in Tipton Cemetery Recorded plaque organisation: Tipton Civic Society.
The Dudley Port Explosion of 1922 resulted in the tragic death of 19 young women working with unstable World War I munitions, highlighting the dangers faced by workers in munition factories and leading to improved safety regulations.
