Why this matters

Drumlanrig Castle was built by the Douglas family in the late 16th century and later held by the Maxwells, becoming a key seat of the Duke of Queensberry. The castle and its garden are important as a fine example of Scottish baronial architecture and as a historic estate with extensive landscaped grounds.
