What is recorded here

Drumgowan Fairy Fort is a broken earthen ring in County Donegal where a small surviving bank still hints at a thirty-metre circular enclosure. It sits immediately west of another ringfort, suggesting the land once held a small cluster of human activity rather than a single isolated marker. The name fairy fort may reflect local story more than fact, yet the preserved earth and lost shape remain a clear trace of the people who built and used the place.
Internal diam. c.·30m. Only a small section of the earthen bank survives but traces of a circular enclosure are discernible. It is located immediately W of another ringfort (DG026-004-). The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated. Date of upload: 22 September 2008
