Ten kilometres of water-carved passage breathe beneath the Clare hills, fed by a road sink that swallows rain and memory alike. The cave took its name from a forgotten smithy whose hammer rings may still echo in the dark, while Oliver Lloyd gave his life to mapping its twisted chambers. What he missed, others completed, not to conquer the dark but to honour the man who disappeared inside it.
