Dobuni tribe, Coritani tribe, and ancient British fort, Rugby blue plaque

This blue commemorative plaque records: This plaque commemorates in these gardens the site of an ancient British fort manned by the Dobuni tribe as an outpost defence point facing a similar fort occupied by the Coritani tribe at Brownsover. It was finally destroyed during the reign of King Steven of Blois 1135 - 1154. Recorded plaque organisation: Rugby Civic Society.

The Dobuni and Coritani were Iron Age tribes in Britain, with the former occupying lands around modern Gloucestershire and the latter in Leicestershire. The ancient fort at Rugby, manned by the Dobuni, signifies the strategic conflicts and defenses between these tribes prior to Roman and later Norman influences.
