Dirleton Castle, including the Castle Mains and Gateway, was originally built by the de Vaux family in the 13th century and later held by the Seton family, who significantly expanded it in the 14th century. It is important as one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Scotland and is associated with historical events such as the Wars of Scottish Independence.
