This brushed metal commemorative plaque records: Ye Olde Black Beare Inn Built in 1634 AD it is the last remaining thatched building in the town. Bear-baiting certainly took place here in the days gone by and it is said that Dick Turpin stayed here on more than one occasion Recorded plaque organisation: Sandbach History Society, Rotary Club & Town Council.
Dick Turpin was an English highwayman active in the 18th century, notorious for his daring exploits; he is remembered as a folk hero despite his criminal activities.
