The Martyr's Stone at Devil's Beef Tub is associated with the Covenanters, a 17th-century movement in Scotland that resisted religious persecution, and is said to mark the site of a martyr's execution. Local tradition holds that the stone was used to pin the bodies of those killed during the persecution of Scottish Protestants under Charles II.
