This marble commemorative plaque records: Near this school*, the benefactor of his sister Elizabeth Stow, was born 17th May 1793, David Stow, author of the "Training system of education;" and founder of the first British Training Colleges for Teachers. Erected by the Renfrewshire Local Association at Paisley Stow Centenary Congress of Educational Institute of Scotland 1893. *Removed 1993.
David Stow was a pioneering educator and author who founded the first British training colleges for teachers, significantly impacting teacher education in Britain.
