This commemorative plaque records: Near this spot on 23rd May 1942 Pilot Officer David Hunter-Blair aged 19, a Scot from Ayrshire was mortally wounded after parachuting from Spitfire MkV AD540 "Blue Peter". He died that others may live. Lest we forget.
David Hunter-Blair, a young Scottish pilot, demonstrated extraordinary bravery during World War II by sacrificing himself to ensure the safety of others when his Spitfire was hit; his actions exemplify the valor and selflessness of wartime pilots.
