Twenty-six tons of wood, empty and adrift, struck the Barra shore in a southwest gale on 22 November 1881. Davar had no cargo to save, only two lives and a master named McRae; the sea took the boat instead. Castlebay Harbour keeps that ordinary disaster beneath its quiet water, a wooden ribcage pressing against the sand where the Hebrides still move.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Davar: Castlebay Harbour, Barra, Sea of the Hebrides as Smack (19th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
