Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Daghestan [possibly]: South Ronaldsay, Orkney, Pentland Firth as Steam Tanker (20th Century)-(1940), Steamship (20th Century)-(1940). The *Daghestan* was a steam tanker built in 1913 that was torpedoed and sunk by the German U-boat U-558 on 14 May 1941 in the Pentland Firth, off the Orkney Islands. The ship was carrying a cargo of aviation fuel and tragically, all 36 crew members were lost. The wreck is considered historically significant as one of the few confirmed casualties of the only recorded U-boat attack in Scottish territorial waters during World War II.
