Vice-Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood was a prominent British naval officer who succeeded Admiral Nelson as commander of the Mediterranean fleet and secured victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, crucial for halting Napoleon's threat to invade Britain.
