Glenside Bridge spans the valley beside Culzean Castle in South Ayrshire, carrying travellers across water instead of around it. The castle looms nearby, but the bridge belongs to the valley road, where carts, boots and rain used the same stone span. It is the kind of place where a journey stops being a dream and becomes a distance that can be walked.
