Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Culross, Low Causeway, St Mungo's Chapel as Chapel (15th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

St Mungo's Chapel is associated with St Mungo (Columba of Culross), a 6th-century Christian saint and cousin of St Columba, who is said to have founded a monastic settlement in the area. The chapel and surrounding site may have been a place of pilgrimage and local devotion, linked to traditions of healing and early Christian worship in Fife.
