Castle Hill rises above Cullen as a medieval motte, its earth shaped by human hands rather than random weather. The hill may have supported a small fortress, a watch point or a boundary marker, yet no building remains visible to confirm that use. Its age and form are clear even when its purpose resists definition.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Cullen, Castle Hill as Motte (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
