Cross-slab (present location) in Lemanaghan

Broken slab (dims. L 0.64m x H 0.25-0.31m x T 0.13-0.15m) the surface of which bears an encircled equal-armed cross with slightly expanded terminals carved in false relief. The arms of the cross are formed by broad bands with recessed triangular shaped centres and by pecking the marks of which are visible in the lines of the cross. Date likely to the early medieval period (7th–10th century AD), based on the style of the encircled equal-armed cross, a common motif in Christian insular art. Such crosses may have marked burial sites, territorial boundaries, or served as waymarkers and had both religious and commemorative functions.
