Cross-slab in Millockstown

Cross-slab

What is recorded here

One chamber, one loop, one journal and one visible owner. This is the smallest complete product, not a demo where every part still belongs to someone else.
A roughly rectangular cross-slab inside the NE angle of the chancel of Millockstown Church (LH017-028001-). It is broken in two and very badly worn and the incised decoration cannot be deciphered. The cross is sunken with a plain shaft splying slightly towards the base. Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 20 June 2012
Probably dating to the early medieval period, this cross-slab may have originally served as a funerary or commemorative monument. Its placement within the church chancel suggests a Christian association, though its specific meaning or dedication is now lost due to extensive wear.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
