Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00213 Dimensions: H 0.789, W 0.695, T 0.145 Double outline hollow angled ring cross with median line inside a three line rectilinear frame. There is a cross in the centre of the ring cross and the median line extends from the end of it. Inscription: 'BLAIMAC' Evidence of discovery: Graves 1854 Condition: Complete. Frame slightly damaged. 9th- to 10th-century AD; the cross design reflects early Christian artistic traditions and may have served a funerary or commemorative function. Clonmacnoise was a major monastic site, and such slabs are often associated with high-status burials or ecclesiastical memorials.
