Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00203 Dimensions: H 0.40, W 0.52, T 0.05 An outline ring cross with hollow angles. Inscription: Part of a vertical inscription runs down the left side of the cross and reads 'CU[C or O]' Evidence of discovery: Macalister 1898-1905 Condition: Very worn. Stem of cross broken off. Date likely to the 9th to 11th century AD, consistent with early Christian inscribed cross-slabs in Ireland. The ring cross and inscription suggest a Christian funerary or commemorative function, common in monastic sites like Clonmacnoise.
