Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00248 Dimensions: H 0.21, W 0.15 This slab, fragmentary and very worn, has an outline ring cross with a median line and stepped ends inside a single line frame. No inscription. Evidence of discovery: OPW 1954-58 Condition: Fragment with part of right arm/stem and frame. National Monuments Service, Photo number: 81-300, 448. Date likely to the early medieval period (7th–10th century AD), consistent with monastic activity at Clonmacnoise. The ring cross may have had a Christian liturgical or commemorative function, common in Irish high crosses of the period.
