Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00286 Dimensions: H 0.425, W 0.40, T 0.057 An outline expansional cross with median line. The circular centre and semicircular terminal expansions are blank. Inscriptioin: Part of a vertical inscription 'OR]DO'. Evidence of discovery: POW 1954-58. A 9th- to 10th-century Christian cross-slab, likely associated with the monastic site of Clonmacnoise; its design reflects early Irish high crosses, possibly used as a grave marker or devotional object. The blank expansions may have originally contained inscriptions or symbols now worn away.
