Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00025 Dimensions: H 0.74, W 0.57, T 0.09 A linear cross with wedge shaped terminals with the inscription running down either side of the cross. Inscription: 'OR DO FINNACHTU'. Evidence of discovery: Drawn by Petrie ar Clonmacnoise in 1822. Condition: Complete but it has suffered from flaking. Date likely to the 9th to 11th century AD, based on the style of the high cross and inscribed formula. The inscription "OR DO FIN" is a Christian votive formula meaning "Prayer for Fin," indicating a funerary or memorial use associated with early Irish monastic Christianity.
