Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00332 Dimensions: H 0.619, W 0.478, T 0.086 Double outline expansional cross with median line and semicircular termianls with loops containing fret patterns. The circular central expansion has a triple arm spiral. Inscription: 'OR DO MAEL CHIARAN' is fitted in around the cross. Evidence of discovery: Petrie 1822. Probably dates to the early medieval period (7th–10th century). The cross-slab likely had a Christian funerary or commemorative function, reflecting the influence of monastic Clonmacnoise.
