What is recorded here
Thirty centimetres of edge gone, the cross still stands in Clonmacnoise, its crude interlace looping around a vanished man named Guariu. Petrie found it in 1822, but Guariu died centuries before pens and inventories, likely young enough to need a cross large enough for both worlds. The stone measures sixty-six centimetres tall, thin as a door panel, heavy as a promise. Someone cut that cross for one person, not a category, and left the category behind.
