Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00398 Dimensions: H 0.29, W 0.16, T 0.07 Looped semicircular terminal expansion with fret pattern. Inscription: There are the bases of letters above the terminal. Evidence of discovery: Davis 1984. Condition: Fragment of a terminal.. Date likely to the early Christian period (7th–10th century AD), given the stylized cross and fret decoration typical of Insular art. Such slabs were often used as grave markers or commemorative monuments in monastic or ecclesiastical contexts.
