What is recorded here

No Clonmacnoise archive ever recorded the hands that cut it, yet the knife-work still snaps tight inside its own border. A small cross, no taller than a child’s arm, carried a knot so dense it seems to move when the light changes. The name disappeared, but the maker did not; they are still visible in the rhythm of the line.

The semicircular terminal expansion has a complicated and well excuted fret pattern. The ornament in the centre was probably a fret or interlace pattern. Inscriptioin: Part of an inscription 'D]O'.
