What is recorded here

Half an arm of a lost cross juts from the soil at Clonmacnoise, stripped of its base and identity. The stone is so large that this fragment alone stands taller than a child, yet time and cement have chewed it into a pockmarked stub. It does not name the dead or describe the life beneath it. It only holds the shape of ascent, waiting for someone brave enough to imagine the missing half.
