What is recorded here

One cross-slab stands in Clonmacnoise, County Offaly, its stone edge worn smooth by centuries of rain and footsteps. It marks a burial older than memory, perhaps belonging to a monk, a child or a traveller who died beside the monastery walls. The cross carved into its face still points upward, holding the dead steady beneath the living sky.
