What is recorded here

Clonmacnoise holds a tiny cross-slab fragment, measuring only thirteen centimetres high and seven wide, preserving just a three-line border with a fret pattern but no inscription or central image. Davis exposed the piece in 1984, proving that even broken stone keeps its shape when people still look for it. The missing centre may have belonged to a forgotten person, a lost church or a cross now reduced to decorative edge. What survives is small enough to hold in both hands, yet it still points back through centuries toward the hands that cut it.
