Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00071 Dimensions: H 0.53, W 0.43, T 0.06 An outline cross with stepped terminals, except on the cross stem, enclosed by a single line frame. Inscription: Above the frame there seems to have been an inscription which has been chisled away. Evidence of discovery: Davis 1984 Condition: Right side of slab badly damaged. Date likely to the 8th to 10th century AD, consistent with early Christian inscribed cross-slabs in Ireland. The cross and inscription suggest a funerary or commemorative function, typical of monastic sites like Clonmacnoise.
