What is recorded here

Clonmacnoise cross-slab CLN00017 is a small tapering stone, barely thirty centimetres tall, marked with a crude linear cross whose ends split and wedge before lines close the top. It has no inscription, and its lower half is gone, leaving the upper part standing like a stub of a forgotten sentence. The missing half may have held the name of the person buried there, or perhaps it broke when the ground shifted and the field changed hands. Whoever cut that cross worked quickly, shaping stone enough to point upward but not enough to explain itself.

Probably dates to the early Christian period (5th–9th century). The cross-slab likely served a funerary or commemorative function, reflecting Christian symbolism in a monastic or burial context.
