Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00177 Dimensions: H 0.215, W 0.15, T 0.055 A double outline ring cross with a square centre (?). Very little remains. No inscription. Evidence of discovery: Davis 1984 Condition: Fragment with arm and ring of cross.. The Clonmacnoise inventory was compiled by the Office of Public Works. A 9th- to 10th-century Christian cross-slab, likely associated with the monastic site of Clonmacnoise; such crosses were used as grave markers or commemorative monuments. The design reflects Insular artistic traditions, common in early Irish Christianity.
