What is recorded here

Eight circles of six petals adjoin inside a thin circular frame on a broken slab at Clonmacnoise. The shallow carving stops at the edge, suggesting the pattern continued elsewhere before the stone was lost. Half remains in two pieces, small enough to lift but heavy with the absence of the missing half.

The design is carved in shallow relief and would appear to have continued off the slab. No inscription. Evidence of discovery: Macalister 1909. Condition: Damaged. Probably dates to the early Christian period (5th–9th century). The petal motifs may represent Christian symbolism or have pre-Christian origins, possibly linked to sun or fertility cults.
