Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00400 Dimensions: H 0.57, W 0.30 Unusual double outline cross with semicircular arm terminal containing a fret pattern inside a rectilinear frame. Inscription: Part of an inscription 'COL…ORA' Evidence of discovery: Macalister 1949. Condition: Worn fragment with frame/inscription/upper arm.. Date likely to the 9th to 11th century AD, consistent with early Christian stone sculpture in Ireland. The cross may have had a liturgical or commemorative function, and its intricate design reflects the symbolic and artistic traditions of monastic Clonmacnoise.
