What is recorded here

A small fragment of a cross slab, 23 cm high and 12 cm wide, lies in Clonmacnoise with part of its frame and blank circular terminal still visible. The surviving lines suggest an expansional cross drawn inside a three-part border, while the missing edge removes the name, date and story that may have stood beneath it. In a field crowded with marked graves, this unfinished-looking fragment keeps the mystery alive: someone cut or chipped through stone, and the rest left the field to memory.

Probably dates to the early medieval period (7th–10th century AD), associated with Christian monastic activity at Clonmacnoise. The cross design may have had a liturgical or commemorative function, typical of high crosses in Ireland.
