Cross-slab in Clonmacnoise

Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00417 Dimensions: H 0.36, W 0.25, T 0.036 Damaged remains of a semicircular terminal expansion and possibly part of a cross arm with interlace or cord work. There seems to be an outline border, with fret patterning, joining the terminals. Incorrectly drawn by Macalister. Inscription: There is part of an inscription 'DAM'. Evidence of discovery: Macalister 1898-1905. Condition: Cement damaged fragment - terminal/arm/inscription.. The Clonmacnoise inventory was compiled by the Office of Public Works. Likely dates to the early medieval period (7th–10th century), associated with the monastic site of Clonmacnoise. The interlace or cord work may indicate a Christian cross-sl ab, possibly used as a grave marker or commemorative monument.
