What is recorded here

The smallest ghost in Clonmacnoise is a five-centimetre shard of stone, no taller than a man’s thumb, saved from the rubble because it may have belonged to a cross. It is so worn the shape has nearly dissolved, leaving only a curved corner and a question about a line that once ran through the middle. Yet that much is enough to mark a grave, a boundary or a prayer forgotten by everyone who lived after it.
