Clonmacnoise grave-slab inventory (1992) number: CLN00571 Dimensions: H 0.47, W 0.25, T 0.035 Part of a cross in a circular frame beneath which there is an initial cross with bar and V-shaped terminals and an inscription. Inscription: 'FIU'. Evidence of discovery: Macalister 1898-1905. Condition: Part of frame, inscription and initial cross. Lionard, Early Irish Grave-slabs, PRIA 60(1959-60), p 102, Fig 1, no. 8. The Clonmacnoise inventory was compiled by the Office of Public Works. A copy of the record for this slab is available for inspection in the relevant Archaeological Survey of Ireland (SMR) file. Date likely to the 9th–10th century AD, associated with early Christian Ireland. The cross and inscription suggest a funerary or commemorative function, typical of monastic sites like Clonmacnoise.
