Cross-slab in Ardane

In the S sector of an ecclesiastical enclosure (TS074-010----) known as St. Berrihert's Kyle and incorporated in an oval stone enclosure, stepped internally, built by the OPW in 1946 (Ó hÉailidhe 1967, 102). This slab is located in the SE sector, on top of the wall. It is described by Ó hÉailidhe (1967, 118) as slab 72, composed of grey sandstone (dims 0.38m x 0.28m; T 0.06m). Probably dates to the early medieval period, associated with the Christian use of the site linked to St. Berrihert. The cross-slab may have served as a memorial or liturgical marker within the monastic enclosure.
