Cross in Unknown Townland

Cross

What is recorded here

Unknown Townland, County Dublin: a plain asymmetrical granite cross, 1.35 m wide and 0.95 m high, lies broken in a churchyard. It may have marked a burial, a boundary or a prayer path before the townland lost its name. The cross no longer points to a place on a map, but it still presents itself as a witness: something was set there deliberately, and time has only sanded the edges of the event.
This plain granite cross was found in the grounds of the church yard (DU015-076001- The arms are asymmetrical (Wth 1.35m, damaged H 0.95m, T 0.5m). Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Date of upload: 26 August 2011
