What is recorded here

One of two early Christian crosses stood in the Ballynahinch graveyard before travelling to Dublin, leaving behind a vacancy rather than a memory. Plain stone does not need ornament to mark the boundary between the living and the dead. It may have watched funerals for centuries, silent and steady, before men decided it belonged in a museum case. The cross still points upward, but its roots are gone.

This is one of two plain crosses (see also GA022-012004-), most likely of early Christian date, that was originally located in the graveyard (GA022-012001-).
